TriO at Homedale High School

The TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program is designed to assist economically and educationally disadvantaged students. This program supports secondary students through graduation and assists them in enrolling at post-secondary institutions. Typical students are limited income, first generation and college bound, and are in need of assistance to expand their educational opportunities.

Boise State University’s ETS program supports 1500 students (8th through 12th grade) at numerous schools in Ada, Canyon, and Owyhee counties.

ETS educational specialists provide services to students individually and in small groups on a weekly basis. Students receive information to help them become successful in school, graduate and enroll in post-secondary education. Instruction and information include effective study habits, goal setting, enrolling in college-bound classes, career information and interest testing, college admissions, and navigating the financial aid and scholarship process.

Additionally, ETS students are given the opportunity to attend college and career fairs, career workshops, local college tours and participate in the TRIO National Days of Service and the Hispanic Youth Symposium. Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to visit out-of-state colleges and universities as well.

Ivonne Martinez New TriO Representative for HHS

Ivonne Martinez-Alfaro is the new TRIO ETS Specialist serving Homedale High School. As a first generation student and TRIO ETS Alumni, Ivonne, understands how important it is to have someone to help guide you through the college process. She is excited to be part of a program that gives students the support to continue and accomplish their goals. Ivonne obtained a Bachelor’s in Visual Art with an emphasis in painting and drawing from Boise State. Prior to that, she attended and graduated from the College of Southern Idaho. She also spent a year studying at the University of New Mexico. She is a Californian transplant, and although still not used to the winter weather, she enjoys everything the Treasure Valley has to offer! You can find her exploring new local places and all the natural splendors Idaho has to offer! She has an abnormal love for coffee, plants, animals, books and art.

Ivonne visits Homedale High School on Tuesdays and is available to students in the guidance counselor office. She attends college nights and is an important asset and resource for all HHS students. Applications to join TriO are available in the guidance counselor’s office. You may contact Ivonne by e-mailing her at ivonnemartinez@boisestate.edu
